We had a blood tracking "test" this weekend to qualify dogs to go to Kentucky to assist the DNR with tracking during the Elk hunting season. If you had passed a 20/40 hr blood tracking test or a VGP you automatically could go. Otherwise they had judges lay and judge a VGP style blood track. I have been doing quite a bit of tracking with my pup Dachs v.d. Ritterburg, so I decided to try to qualify him. We drew a very hard track through the thick stuff, across a creek bed and up a big hill. We completed the track in less than 11 minutes, never getting off the track and only picked his nose up one time. I never had to stop him and lay him down and not one restart. The judges said it was one of the fastest VGP blood tracks they had seen and it was prize 1 work. To beat it all he just turned 7 months old. I wanted a dog that could track, whether its game or blood tracking and I believe I found one.

Awesome! And congratulations! I bet you are already anxiously awaiting Elk season......keep us posted on your progress. I can't wait to read about your pups first recovery - make sure you take a camera!
