I have a question that relates somewhat to the last post in this section. I'm in Ontario Canada and the hot weather is just beginning. What is th e best, most efficient way to strip the dead hair form my guy? It seems like an easy question but my dog is on the short end of the standard for hair length and I'm wondering if a comb ,as mentioned previously, would do more damage than good. Right now we're using a rubber groomer 's mitt daily to extract the hair. Can anyone recommend something that might work quicker or more effectively?

The marrs comb does a good job but can take out too much under coat. If you want to take off a lot of hair soap him up and strip him wet. Its best to hand strip, you pluck out the hair in the dirrection it grows,Its not hard to do just takes time. Do a search on hand stripping.

Hey Craig, Given that I know your dog...I can bring my mars coat king to the next training clinic that I hold and we can give it a try. I have not tried it on a coat like your dogs, but from the feedback that I've got it should do a good job.

I really like a product called the "Furminator." I'm on my first DD pup, but I've been involved with GWP's for 12 years. I always hand stripped in the spring, but I could never get at the undercoat. The really good thing about the Furminator is that it doesn't "cut" any of the hair. I've been told by groomers that if you are cutting the outercoat on a wirehaired dog you will eventually soften the texture of the coat. Ths product does pull out a lot of the outercoat that is ready to be stripped. My 5 year old GWP's coat has never looked or felt better. I've found I still need to do some hand stripping, but much less now since I've been turned on to the Furminator. By the looks of my DD pup's coat, I probably wont have to do much if any hand stripping, but if his undercoat is heavy I'll certainly work it with the Furminator. www.furminator.com/

A friend brought the "Furminator" along on a camping trip for his dog, and I got a chance to try it. It is exactly what I was looking for and works as advertised.
