Planning and designing the new Seilerhaus Kennel facility. Will have indoor sleeping quarters, training room and vet station. Looking for pros and cons regarding access doors . have tried TE Scott's and know there are better units out there, just haven't come across them yet. we have strong winter winds here in Ohio and wondering if anyone has had luck with the magnetic type. Do they keep shut, or are they drafty??

Todd: I installed the magnetic dog doors several years ago (I can not remember the brand) and ended up replacing them all with K-9 Kondo kennel doors. I have had these in place for over 12 years without any problems, only need to replace the replace the rubber gromets on the swinging door every couple of years. If you are interested I have listed their web site: www.k-9kondo.com/ Good luck with your new kennel. Wildflugel

Todd & Jill, I have a couple of heated dog houses that came from k-9kondo and they are indestructable. I too am putting up a building that will house my kennels. I would like to stick with the k-9 doors. Jill, is there some type of flashing that gets mounted on the inside of the building to prevent the dogs from chewing? I am also concerned about draft and heat loss since I am heating the building but I think the tough construction of these doors will outweigh the draft potential. Tom Wilcox

Tom:
There is flashing on both the inside and outside of the door. The swinging door itself is heavy duty and I have yet to have a dog chew it. These doors are so sturdy that when I have them propped open some of my dogs will stand with their front feet on it. The door supports their weight with no problems. These doors do not seal air tight, on very windy days some air will get inside my building. But my building is insulated and heated and I have not noticed a significant drop in the inside temperature. For the money and construction I think they are the best door on the market.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
