For piegons i tie a string with a small amount of weight to their leg. when flushed they fly about 30-40 yds and then light again. i have only a few quail, not enough to use to figure out the right amount of weight to use with them. So my question is, do any of you use this method with quail and if so what do you use. With the piegons i am able to retrieve them to use again and would like to do the same with the quail...
What are your thoughts? this is my first pointer, so any help would be great...
thanks

Wirehair: Instead of tying weight on your quail's leg, have you considered "carding" them instead. I have listed a web site that describes the procedure and has a few pictures: www.thecheckcord.com/archives/cbirds.html I have routinely carded pigeons, but do not know why this would not work for quail too. Good luck. Wildflugel

Wildflugel,
Thanks for the link. I have been thinking of carding my pigeons and this link has helped me visualize it much better.
