Hello all- I'm having trouble finding wild rabbits for Gunner to run. It seems the local Coyote population has taken it's toll on them this year. Any ideas where I could buy some rabbits to use for training? I have not had any luck finding any beagle clubs etc in my area. Just wondering what everyone else does in this case. Is there other alternatives to live rabbits for training to the VJP? Thanks in advance Victor

If you can not trap any I would suggest looking for any Livestock auctions. If that does not work I got my most recent rabbits from a breeder. They are New Zealand Whites that are breed for showing. Only kind I could find even though they are not what is suggested to be the best rabbits to train with. Anyway the breeder sells off the ones that are not good enough to show for meat and to labs. I found them by searching rabbit breeders and meat breeders on the internet. If you go this way then you want to have a larger pen for them to run around in for a week before using. One week is all it took for the seven I got to become skiddish and fast. They were $1.50 a pound. I got 4 pounders for my pup.
Good Luck!

I do not know where you live but I would try asking at feed stores or co ops. Here in Georgia we have a monthly publication called the farmers bulletin. It lists all sorts of livestock and game birds, as well as farming equipment and employment opportunities.
