How many of you use dog blinds for goose or duck hunting? I debating the benefits of either buying or making a dog blind. What are the pros and cons and if you have any homemade blinds I'd love to see a picture. Last year I kept Harry laying on the left side of my layout blind: This was at the end of the hunt and the straw was starting to wear thin, and I keep the ruck inside the blind with me. I tried to keep Harry in the blind with me, but that didn't work at all, he has to see out. I don't have the zipper in the bottom of the blind, and I really don't want to get in the habit of shooting right over his head. Wes

I don't use a blind for the dogs. When I'm in my layout my dogs lay about where yours is in your picture. I don't like them to lay by my feet for the reason you mentioned of shooting directly over their heads. I have had geese decoy when the dogs were either layin in or walking in the decoys. These dogs camouflage really well - and the movement helps sometimes.
If I'm hunting marshes, the dog gets in the skid with me to stay out of the water, or I down the dog on the bank. If it's not too cold, I just have the dog sit next to me in the water.
IMO, I wouldn't spend the money on a dog blind. And I've already got plenty of gear to haul with me, I don't need a dog blind too. Now if you could design one that your dog could carry......

I don't know, I find them useful. I keep the dog's blind inside of my layout blind with my goose flag. Keeps me from forgetting it or having to make another trip / carry something else. I had won my first exibit, made by Sport Pet, folds into small round shape, but does not do a good job of staying upright when stubble is added, and dog seems to move it easily. It is very light weight, sets up easily, and packs small. Web sight link... www.waterfowl-works.com/dogblind.htmI found our second one just last month, called a Mutt Hutt, made by Final Approach. It is their new design, and is to be on the market this season. I bought this one from a distributor at a show. It is not one for a larger dog, but folds in half for easy transport. It is more or less a tee pee shape with doors that velcro to stay closed, with hole for dogs head to poke through. It is made of tougher material, I'm not hip on the new duck hunters shadow grass pattern yet, a little light for my taste. This link shows the current design on the shelves, I do not know when the new one will come out. Let's just put it this way; I took my drahthaar to the show to let people see her and socialize her some more, she went into the dog blind with out even having to tell her twice, and she wouldn't come out until I called her. I told the distributer that I had to leave with it, even though it was his only unit. This web site is for the current design...one that is on the shelves today. I like it for larger dogs. My female is 55 lbs.
