Is it just mine or is this breeds tendancy to roam? Every once and a while, maybe every six months or so she takes a notion to wander.I go crazy looking for her, calling all over, talking to neighbors.... Its an aweful feeling.

They will go and find some action if you're not paying attention. I never let them run unsupervised. They're not like Lassie.

jsimon, I'm sorry about my first reply. As I look back on it I came off as a smart alec, and you didn't need that tone.
Is your dog taking off on you while your out with her? What is the situation?
Sorry again for the Lassie comment.

No offence taken,I'm just wondering if its a breed thing or something I do or did.when we are hunting she is fine but when we are out around the house cutting wood or whatever every once and a while she will disappear on me

I think they just go looking for something to hunt. I know I can't do outside chores with my DD unattended. He'd do the same thing as yours. Sounds like yours is hunting "with you" when you're actuallu hunting and that's the important thing.

This is NOT the Breed to EVER allow to be Roaming.
They will Dispatch Cats, as most well know, within seconds. Some will chase deer or otherwise get into trouble or killed by Cars. If youre not hunting or training or supervising, keep them confined.
This goes without saying for this breed, moreso than most. That said...I once left the gate open (Thought I closed it) came out and saw the bitch lying right outside the doorstep. She hadnt moved.

I take my DD to work at my garage everyday. He was taught very early where the boundaries were and I have not had a problem in 9 years.
He likes to sit on the sidewalk and greet everyone. He will not leave my lot.
