I have an almost 5 month old pup and this Sunday will be the first time I see how he reacts to birds. I am getting a half dozen quail Sunday AM, and I have a nice open grassy field to use. My intention is to shoot the quail over him. I haven't tried him close to the shotgun, so I have to do that first. The .22 didn't bother him at all, so I don't think that is a problem.
I figured I would plant a bird, and have someone hold the dog with a slip leash, make him stay on point back from the birds, and then let him go once I shoot the bird to retrieve. I have been working with him with a bumper for months, and I started putting pheasant wings around one last week. It did take him a few tries to get onto the feathered bumper.
Thanks, CHAZ
